What’s Blooming May 2021

The garden is beautiful and seems to change every day. So for this article, let’s just enjoy the beauty! I have the benefit of plenty of property that can allow plants growing on the wild side. If you get behind with your garden maintenance and don’t keep up with “dead-heading” roses and alstroemeria, they can look overgrown, and sometimes unsightly, but still dazzle with a stunning display of new blooms. These pictures are from mid-May and show off some of my well-tended flowers, and some not so well tended.

Here are some of the roses:

Hidden away down the garden path is my secret garden:

This climbing rose hasn’t been pruned in at least 10 years. It is overgrown together with overgrow oleander behind it, but this display may convince us to wait another year before trimming!

If you have followed my blogs or have visited my garden, you know that I love alstroemerias
This is one of 3 raised beds that are 4 feet by 16 feet. As you can see it is filled with alstroemeria, , both Tri-color and Pink. This will be in bloom for 8-9 months of the year.

Alstromeria

This is another raised bed with the alstroemeria Indian Summer. These make beautiful flower displays. Have you planted any of these yet, or put a spot on your calendar to plant them this Fall?

I have planted clematis in several places in the garden, and often plant it to intermingle with climbing roses. It complicates pruning the roses later, but also makes for interesting displays.
